These are my resources. I am not giving the students the booklet for a while, instead I have broken down the booklet into smaller, manageable tasks.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationnews/9044839/Soft-subject-GCSEs-to-be-reviewed-by-Ofqual.html  There could be changes in all Geography specs depending on this review. The wide range of topics of Edexcel B though could be what Gove…

I am really sorry that a number of you are obviously upset about the exams. As I said before, I always read the ning responses and take what has been said to the pre-standardisation meetings - so the comments do get heard for the papers I am…

Have already done this! I think it really does need to be fed back if enough of us are feeling this way.

In response to my own ranting e-mail - I have e-mailed Jon Wolton and he said any responses/complaints that he gets from centres will be fed to senior examiners and assessors at the pre-standardisation meeting so please e-mail and let him know as…

I completely agree too. We chose this spec because the units on the face of it seemed to have less content when you have a look at the specification and covered a broader depth of issue. However - only once you have started to teach the topics do…

Completely agree about the language of the paper - I have a number of students who seem to have not even attempted some Qs (which is going to have a big impact on the 6 mark ones) just because they cannot understand the language used and their…

End of Unit tests 7 Replies

Hi all I have never contributed to this site before but have taken loads so thank you. I have made a load of end of unit tests this year and so felt I should share. They are as similar to actual unit 1 and 2 papers s possible but are all 20 markers (easy to see progress/ regress over time) and we normally give 25 minutes. Markschemes to follow Thanks GeorgeContinue

Unit 1 exam today (20/01/12) 27 Replies

Hi everyone, What did you and your pupils think of the exam today? My first response is that the foundation was really tough, especially the 6 mark questions on Topic 5 Coasts and 8 Extreme climates. In fact they could easily have been swapped with thre higher questions! SarahContinue

Change of specification 2 Replies

I just wondered what everyone else's thoughts were on changing specifications? I'm finding that this spec is seriously letting the students down. I had 100% A*-C last year and this year will not be anywhere near the same. I am dissappointed with the way questions are worded and how the students are tested on their knowledge. Does anyone else have these problems or concerns?Continue

Unit 2 Exam today 9 Replies

My students took Unit 2 today and came out crestfallen, particularly about question 7This question did not at all reflect the syllabus or text books about Development Dilemmas.I am very disappointed with this syllabus. The students learn so much and then are given obscure questions that are usually obsessed with sustainability.I will definitely move away from Edexcel as soon as we canContinue

River Processes and pressures - some help required!

HelloI'm covering a maternity leave and have been asked by the department to teach Unit 1 topics in 5 lessons only... the topic we are starting next week is the rivers one, a topic the school has not done before so there are no resources. If anyone has 5 compact 1-hour lessons (or could recommend what I teach in these 5 lessons) + homeworks which could cover other parts of the chapter, I would be more than grateful.I know that this is a long-shot but I think the rivers chapter looks wordy and I…Continue

Terminology is it LEDC, LIC or just developing country?

I have been having this quandry for a while now. What terminology do we use with this new spec as far as classifying the state of development in a country?

Is it LEDC, LIC/HIC/MIC or just developing and developed.

The green Oxford textbook uses HIC/LIC/MIC but there seems to be no mention in exam questions of this terminology.

Am I going to confuse students if I start using it and then they are simply referred to as in the Oxford textbook developed and developing.

Is… Continue

Revision videos on youtube

Hi! I've been making revision videos for my year 10 and 11 students and posting them on youtube. They're not amazing, mainly just me talking through some of the key points in each unit, but quite a few of my students havesaid they have found them useful. There are just 5 up at the moment, but more to follow over the next couple of weeks. If you think they will be useful search for 'miss room geography' on youtube and take a look!
